Sticking to its historic stance towards the Palestinian cause, India was among 166 nations that endorsed Palestinian “right to self determination”.
While India and other 165 nations voted in favour of the resolution titled “The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination” at the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee, the United States, Israel, Nauru, Micronesia and the Marshall Islands voted against it.
Nine countries, including Australia, Guatemala and Rwanda, abstained.
The resolution was sponsored by North Korea, Egypt, Nicaragua, Zimbabwe and Palestine and voting took place on November 19, 2019.
