The 9th edition of the Indo-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise, Garuda Shakti, has begun at Mokopassus in Cijantung, Indonesia. This exercise aims to share experiences and best practices in mission planning and operational tactics for Special Forces operations in jungle terrain. The participating troops have been engaged in a series of tactical drills.
The Indian contingent is represented by troops from The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) comprising 25 personnel, and the Indonesian contingent, comprised of 40 personnel, is represented by Indonesian Special Forces Kopassus.
Exercise Garud Shakti 24 aims to enhance interoperability, deepen mutual understanding, and facilitate cooperation between the Special Forces of both armies. By familiarizing participants with each other’s operating procedures, the exercise strengthens bilateral military ties and allows both sides to rehearse joint tactical manoeuvres. Key components of the program include collaborative discussions, planning sessions, and the execution of special operations drills.
Throughout the exercise, participants will engage in advanced training focused on special operations, skill orientation, and sharing of techniques, innovations, weaponry, and equipment insights. The joint drills will cover operations in jungle terrain, simulated strikes on terrorist camps, and a comprehensive Validation Exercise that integrates both basic and advanced special forces skills. Beyond the tactical training, the exercise offers insights into the lifestyle and culture of both countries, fostering a stronger military partnership and cultural exchange.
Exercise Garud Shakti 24 underscores India and Indonesia’s commitment to shared security objectives and regional stability. The Indian army said both contingents aim to strengthen their longstanding bond and reinforce bilateral relations between these friendly nations by exchanging best practices and enhancing operational synergy.
