Indian Air Force fleet comprising fighter jets Sukhoi-30MKI, Mig-29 and Jaguar, MI helicopters and premier transport aircraft C-130 J Super Hercules carried out fly-pasts across India saluting corona warriors on Sunday, 3 May. The IAF had deployed 35 aircraft that included 10 fighter jets, four transport aircraft and 20 helicopters. Helicopters were used to drop flower petals in 20 cities and 58 hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in the country as a part of a mega-event to express gratitude and solidarity with doctors, paramedics and other front-line workers battling the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
The major highlight of the fly-past exercise was the two C-130 J transport aircraft which flew from Srinagar to Trivandrum via Kanyakumari in a non-stop sortie of 10 hours 10 minutes covering 5004-kilometre distance without refuelling. The aircraft were carrying 3 tonnes of COVID-19 load to give an aerial salute to our corona warriors.
