Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday reviewed the security situation and operational preparedness of the Armed Forces at the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) in Kolkata, West Bengal hosted by Headquarters Eastern Command of Indian Army.

The Prime Minister was briefed on the Armed Forces’ readiness in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor and on the evolving nature of warfare shaped by emerging technologies and tactics. He also took stock of reforms carried out over the past two years and discussed the roadmap for the next phase of military transformation.

Complimenting the Services for the success of Operation Sindoor, Modi highlighted their role in nation building, anti-piracy operations, evacuation of Indians from conflict zones, and extending humanitarian and disaster relief to partner nations, the Ministry of Defence said.

Underscoring 2025 as the “Year of Reforms” in defence, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Defence to accelerate initiatives for greater jointness, self-reliance (Aatmanirbharta), and innovation to prepare for future challenges.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and the Chiefs of the three Services were present. Singh will address the Commanders on September 16, followed by the Chief of Defence Staff on September 17.

Held biennially, the CCC is the highest-level military forum for civilian and armed forces leadership to deliberate on strategic, structural, and operational issues. This year’s theme, “Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future,” aligns with the Armed Forces’ ongoing modernisation drive.

The conference emphasised the need for transformative reforms within the Indian Armed Forces. Discussions covered a variety of strategic issues, including force modernisation, joint operations, integration, and improving operational readiness for multi-domain warfare, as stated in a post by HQ IDS on X.

Over the next two days, the conference will carry out a comprehensive review of operational preparedness, structural and administrative reforms, and set the roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister’s vision for India’s military transformation.
