“Dutch Original Equipment Manufacturers could be encouraged to integrate Indian vendors into their supply chains”
– Shri Rajnath Singh
The diplomatic relationship between India and the Netherlands has been robust since their formal diplomatic ties were established in 1947, a year after India gained independence. Both nations have shared a rich history of cultural, economic, and political interactions, with the Netherlands being one of India’s significant trading partners in Europe. Key sectors of collaboration include agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. Cultural exchanges have also played a vital role in strengthening their bond, as the Netherlands has been home to a substantial Indian diaspora, celebrating Indian festivals such as Diwali and Holi. In the political sphere, both countries have cooperated on various international platforms, including the United Nations, where they share common perspectives on global issues.
During a bilateral meeting held in New Delhi on 23 February, 2024, the Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, and the Netherlands’ Defence Minister, Ms Kajsa Ollongren, discussed expanding their bilateral cooperation, particularly in the maritime and industrial sectors. They acknowledged the growing collaboration between the two nations’ navies and expressed their mutual interest in enhancing maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region. Shri Rajnath Singh proposed that Dutch Original Equipment Manufacturers integrate Indian vendors into their supply chains, given India’s thriving innovation and industrial ecosystem. Both parties agreed to encourage increased interactions between their respective defence industries and high-tech sectors such as semiconductors and clean energy. The Netherlands Defence Minister is attending the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi.
