Air Show during 92nd anniversary of IAF in Tambaram, Chennai

The skies over Guwahati are set to roar this weekend as the Indian Air Force (IAF) brings its might and mastery to the Northeast for the first time ever. In a historic showcase to mark the IAF’s 93rd anniversary, the Eastern Air Command will host a full-scale air show at Lachit Ghat, with the mighty Brahmaputra as its breathtaking backdrop.
Over the next two days, the region will witness an awe-inspiring aerial spectacle — more than 75 aircraft and helicopters performing in over 25 coordinated formations. From the cutting-edge Rafale and Sukhoi-30 MKI fighters to the agile Apache attack helicopter and the massive IL-78 mid-air refueller, the show will be a rare display of speed, power, and precision.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the grand event on Sunday, joined by Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command.

“It is for the first time that the IAF is holding such an expansive show in the Northeast,” said Defence PRO Lt Col Mahender Rawat. “Almost the entire range of IAF aircraft and helicopters will take to the skies, performing breathtaking manoeuvres. The people here will get a glimpse of our sky warriors in action.”

The air show will feature a mix of frontline fighters, transport aircraft, and helicopters flying in perfect synchrony — a visual symphony of speed, skill, and teamwork. More than just a demonstration of air power, the event aims to ignite young minds across the Northeast, inspiring them to dream of careers in the Air Force and instilling the values of patriotism, discipline, and service to the nation.

“Beyond the spectacle, the event aims to inspire youth across the Northeast,” Lt Col Rawat added. “Designated viewing areas along both banks of the river will allow the public to enjoy the show up close.”

Practice sorties since Tuesday have already stirred excitement across Guwahati, as residents caught glimpses of the jets streaking across the skies. The Flying Display 2025’ is scheduled from 12:30 PM to 2 PM on both Saturday and Sunday, with aircraft operating from seven air bases — Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Chabua, Hasimara, Bagdogra, and Panagarh.

The lineup reads like a roll call of India’s aerial arsenal — Rafale, Sukhoi-30, MiG-29, Mirage 2000, Jaguar, Apache, IL-78, C-17 Globemaster, C-130 Hercules, MI-17, Advanced Light Helicopter Mk-I, Antonov AN-32, and the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team — all ready to dazzle spectators with their finesse and firepower.

Inviting citizens to witness the spectacle, the Indian Air Force posted on X:

“As part of the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations, join us for the spectacular IAF Flying Display 2025. Witness the power and precision of the IAF in the skies.”

As the engines roar and contrails paint the skies above the Brahmaputra, Guwahati will not just be watching a show — it will be witnessing history in motion.
