Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has become the first Indian company to deliver a next-generation, indigenously manufactured 3D air surveillance radar ((3D-ASR) for the Indian Navy.

The system – the 3D-ASR Lanza-N, a naval variant of Spain-based Indra’s advanced Lanza radar – was successfully commissioned on a frontline warship after rigorous sea trials. The tests validated seamless integration with the ship’s combat management systems and confirmed performance against a wide range of aerial and maritime targets.

It marks the first-ever deployment of the Lanza-N outside Spain, underscoring deepening Indo-Spanish defence collaboration. The project also reflects a major stride in India’s ‘Make in India’ defence push, with TASL leading local assembly, integration, and testing.

To enable serial production, TASL has set up a dedicated radar manufacturing and test facility at its Karnataka campus. The centre will support faster rollout of additional radars across the Navy’s destroyers, frigates, and carriers.

“This partnership is about more than just technology transfer – it’s about building lasting capability in India,” said Sukaran Singh, CEO and MD of TASL. “With local expertise, infrastructure, and a resilient supply chain, we are creating a sustainable radar ecosystem.”

Ana Buendía, Head of Indra’s Naval Business Unit, added: “The establishment of a radar factory in Bengaluru strengthens our long-term support for the Indian Navy and our cooperation with TASL.”

About the Lanza-N

The Lanza-N is among the most advanced tactical naval radars in the world, designed to detect threats ranging from stealth drones to supersonic aircraft and anti-ship missiles. With 3D long-range surveillance capability, it provides a decisive edge in contested maritime environments.

This milestone not only boosts India’s indigenous defence credentials but also equips the Navy with cutting-edge surveillance capability for future maritime challenges.
