In a move to bolster defence intelligence cooperation, Lieutenant General DS Rana, Director General of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DG DIA), is set to embark on an official visit to Australia from March 19-21. This high-profile engagement follows Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan’s successful visit to Australia earlier this month, marking another high-profile visit to strengthen Indo-Australian defence collaboration.
During his visit, Lt Gen Rana will engage in high-level discussions with key Australian defence and intelligence officials, including the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Defence, Director General of National Intelligence (DGNI), Chief of Defence Intelligence, and Chief of Joint Operations of the Australian Defence Forces (ADF). The Defence Ministry said these meetings will focus on enhancing intelligence-sharing mechanisms, regional security cooperation, and expanding collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region—a crucial area for both nations.
Lt Gen Rana will also visit the Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQ JOC) to gain insights into Australia’s operational framework and joint command structures. Additionally, he is scheduled to interact with the Director of the Australian Geospatial Organisation (AGO), further reinforcing intelligence-sharing capabilities between the two countries.
Beyond defence engagements, the visit will also feature strategic dialogues at the Lowy Institute, Australia’s leading international policy think tank. Lt Gen Rana will participate in discussions on evolving security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific.
In a symbolic gesture of respect and shared military traditions, Lt Gen Rana will lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial and attend the Last Post Ceremony, paying tribute to fallen soldiers. This solemn occasion underscores the deep-rooted military camaraderie between India and Australia, the statement said.
Lt Gen Rana’s visit reflects the growing depth of Indo-Australian defence intelligence cooperation, reinforcing the shared commitment to regional stability, security, and strategic engagement in an increasingly complex global landscape.
