Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan embarks on an official visit to Algeria today, aiming to enhance defence cooperation between India and Algeria. The visit, from October 31 to November 4, underscores the deepening engagement between the two nations, both committed to strengthening diplomatic and military ties.
During his stay, General Chauhan will meet General of the Army Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, and hold comprehensive discussions with senior officials from Algeria’s Ministry of National Defence (MoND). This dialogue is expected to cover a range of topics focused on bolstering collaboration and mutual strategic interests.
“The discussions would focus on enhancing military cooperation, with emphasis on securing strategic interests, capacity building, training, technology exchange and ‘Make in India’ initiatives,” Defence Ministry said.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation during his visit, reinforcing the strong military collaboration between India and Algeria.
A key highlight of the visit is General Chauhan’s participation as Guest of Honour at the military parade and ceremony marking the 70th Anniversary of Algeria’s Glorious Revolution, commemorated on November 1. This significant event celebrates Algeria’s struggle for independence, initiated on 1 November 1954.
According to the MoD statement, in line with India’s commitment to fostering professional military training and education, General Chauhan will visit Algeria’s prestigious Higher War School, an institution renowned for shaping Algeria’s military leadership. He is also scheduled to address senior officers, further solidifying ties in defence education and training.
This visit is expected to elevate the defence partnership between India and Algeria, fostering deeper mutual trust and understanding between the two nations. It follows on the heels of the recent visit by the President of India to Algeria in October, highlighting a strengthening trajectory in diplomatic and defence ties.
