The Defence Secretary, Giridhar Aramane, reiterated the unwavering commitment of the Ministry of Defence to undertake further reforms in defence production to boost domestic industry. He stated that the Ministry is dedicated to supporting the ecosystem by implementing Industry 4.0/QA 4.0 to enhance manufacturing. He delivered the keynote address at a seminar on Quality Reforms held virtually by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA) in association with the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM) on July 9 in the capital. He emphasised the importance of achieving the specified goals and the need for self-reliance in defence manufacturing. He highlighted the pivotal role of all stakeholders, particularly the domestic defence industry, in realising this vision.

During the event, Lieutenant General R S Reen, Director General of the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), highlighted various quality initiatives and reforms undertaken by DGQA to facilitate ease of doing business and promote self-reliance (Atmanirbharata). Rajinder Singh Bhatia, President of the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers (SIDM), provided industry perspective on ongoing reforms and emphasised the need for a collaborative approach.
The Ministry of Defence’s statement said that over 250 representatives from defence industries, members of SIDM, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, PHD CCI, Service Headquarters, CMDs of Defense Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), government quality assurance agencies, startups, and Ministry of Defence officials took part in the seminar. Some of the notable speakers from the private industry included Arun Ramachandani from L&T Precision Engineering, N Raveeswaran, CEO of A&D Strategic Business at Mahindra Defence, Neeraj Gupta, MD of MKU Ltd, and Vrinda Kapoor, CEO of 3rd iTech, as well as Dr R Shivaraman from Big Bang Boom Solutions Pvt Ltd. Their industry perspective on Quality Assurance and suggestions for facilitating and improving indigenous manufacturing in the defence sector were invaluable, the statement stated.
