Tata to set up helicopter Final Assembly Line in Vemagal, Karnataka, to build Airbus’ H125 light helicopters

Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) will set up India’s first private-sector helicopter Final Assembly Line (FAL) in Vemagal, Karnataka, to build Airbus’ H125 light helicopters. The facility will roll out its first “Made in India” H125 by early 2027, aimed at both domestic and export markets in South Asia.

The initiative will boost India’s civil helicopter segment—spanning medical evacuation, disaster relief, law enforcement, and tourism—while also supporting the armed forces’ demand for a light, high-altitude capable multi-role helicopter. A military variant, the H125M, is planned from the Indian line with high levels of indigenisation.

“This is our second FAL in collaboration with Airbus and makes Tata the first private company in India to build helicopters,” said Sukaran Singh, CEO & MD, TASL. Airbus India Chief Jürgen Westermeier added that the H125 project would position helicopters as “an essential tool for nation-building.”

The H125 FAL follows the Airbus–Tata C295 military aircraft plant in Gujarat, further cementing the European aerospace major’s $1.4 billion annual sourcing relationship with India.

Globally, the H125 is Airbus’s best-selling single-engine helicopter, proven in extreme conditions and uniquely capable of landing on Mount Everest.
