The Indian Army on December 1 successfully carried out a combat launch of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from a test range in the Bay of Bengal, marking a significant boost to India’s long-range precision strike capabilities.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the mission was executed through a meticulously coordinated operation involving a dedicated BrahMos unit of the Southern Command, supported by elements of the Tri-Services Andaman and Nicobar Command. The test validated the missile system’s combat readiness under operational conditions.

In a statement posted on X, the Southern Command said the missile “roared across the Bay of Bengal” in a high-speed flight and struck its designated target with “pinpoint accuracy,” demonstrating its unmatched speed, precision and destructive capability. The Army added that the launch reaffirmed India’s capacity to conduct decisive precision strikes at extended ranges.

Equipped with advanced guidance, navigation, and control systems, the BrahMos showcased exceptional flight stability and terminal accuracy during the test. The Army noted that the mission met all predefined objectives under simulated battlefield environments, highlighting the preparedness of its BrahMos units to undertake real-time precision missions amid evolving security challenges.

Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, commended the personnel involved, calling the launch a testament to the Army’s professionalism and technological prowess.

“This successful launch by Southern Command is a powerful testament to India’s growing Aatmanirbharta in defence and the Army’s unflinching readiness to meet future operational challenges,” the Army said.

The latest test strengthens India’s deterrence posture and underscores the reliability and effectiveness of indigenous missile systems. It also reflects the steady progress of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
