The Indian Navy conducted an extensive exercise on Saturday called ‘Poorvi Leher’ (EPOL) along the East Coast to assess its readiness to face any maritime security threats in the region. Special naval forces, submarines, aircraft, and ships participated in the exercise. The Indian Navy said the тАЬexercise was aimed at validating procedures for assessing the Indian Navy’s preparedness to meet maritime security challenges in the regionтАЭ. It said that the exercise was conducted under the Operational Control of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
The exercise was conducted in different phases. The combat training in a realistic scenario was part of the tactical phase, while the successful execution of various firings was conducted under the weapon phase. The aim of the exercise was to demonstrate the Indian Navy’s ability to deliver ordnance accurately and on target, the Indian Navy said.
The Navy said in a statement that “with the operation of aircraft from diverse locations, a near continuous maritime domain awareness was maintained throughout the Area of operations.”
“In addition to the participation of assets from Eastern Naval Command, the exercise also witnessed participation of assets from IAF, Andaman and Nicobar Command and Coast Guard indicating a very high degree of interoperability amongst the Services,” it added.
The Navy said that the exercise offered valuable lessons to participating forces operating under realistic conditions, enhancing their readiness to respond effectively to regional maritime challenges.
