In a landmark display of Nari Shakti (Women Power) and inter-services camaraderie, an all-women crew from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force is set to embark on a challenging sailing expedition covering over 4000 nautical miles across the Indian Ocean. The 55-day India’s first Tri-Services All Women Circumnavigation Sailing Expedition ‘Samudra Pradakshina‘ will be flagged off on 07 April from the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre (INWTC), Mumbai, by Lt Gen AK Ramesh, Commandant, College of Military Engineering.

The expedition, the first of its kind, marks a bold step forward in fostering gender inclusivity and operational excellence within the Indian Armed Forces. Comprising eleven women officers, the team is a testament to the grit, perseverance, and indomitable spirit of Indian women in uniform.

Trained under the rigorous mentorship of seasoned sailors at the Army Adventure Nodal Centre for Blue Water Sailing (AANC-BWS), these officers have undergone over a year of intense preparation. From novices to seasoned navigators, their journey included mastering sailing fundamentals, weather forecasting, emergency handling, and long-distance expedition planning.

The crew includes six officers from the Indian Army, one from the Indian Navy, and four from the Indian Air Force, symbolizing true Tri-Services integration. Their vessel for the mission – the Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) TRIVENI – will carry them through unpredictable waters, testing their endurance and skill against the elements.

This expedition is more than a maritime mission – it’s a declaration of empowerment, resilience, and the boundless potential of women in uniform. As these officers prepare to chart a new course in naval adventure, they carry with them the hopes of a nation and the inspiration to empower future generations.
