The Indian Army’s 38th Infantry Commanders’ Conference, held from December 9 to 11 at the Infantry School in Mhow, concluded on Thursday with senior leadership reviewing operational, training and capability-development challenges confronting infantry units in both conventional warfare and counter-terrorism environments.

Presided over by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi, the biennial conference brought together the Vice Chief of Army Staff, six Army Commanders, 17 Lieutenant Generals and 14 Major Generals, including Colonels of Infantry Regiments and Regimental Centre Commandants. Participants joined physically in Mhow and via video conference from major military stations nationwide.

According to an official statement, the forum examined “numerous challenges and issues critical for Infantry in operations, training, capability development and infusion of technology.” Senior commanders assessed the preparedness of infantry formations for conventional war, counter-terrorism operations, and insurgency scenarios, taking several “path-breaking” decisions aimed at boosting future-readiness.

The conference also showcased the Infantry’s latest acquisitions across lethality, mobility, battlefield transparency, situational awareness and survivability. A demonstration of newly inducted New Generation Weapons & Equipment Systems was highlighted as having strengthened confidence in the Infantry’s modernisation trajectory, PTI reported.

Army officials said the deliberations helped “foster the Infantry spirit” and reinforced bonds across regimental lines. Discussions covered a wide spectrum of issues, with solutions identified through the “collective wisdom” of senior commanders and inputs from young commanding officers.

The Infantry, India’s largest combat arm, forms the backbone of ground operations, tasked with seizing, securing and defending critical terrain in all operational scenarios.
