Operation Sindoor, Defence Shield by 2035: Modi’s Uncompromising Independence Day Agenda

0

In a 103-minute address, the longest Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined an ambitious roadmap for the nation’s security, technological supremacy, and strategic autonomy. Speaking from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day, the Prime Minister framed the coming decade as a defining era for India’s sovereignty and global standing.

Operation Sindoor: “A Response Beyond Imagination”

The centrepiece of the speech was Operation Sindoor, India’s decisive cross-border military action following the April 22 terrorist massacre at Pahalgam’s Baisran meadow, where civilians were targeted based on religion.

“Entire India was outraged, and the entire world was shocked,” PM Modi said. “Operation Sindoor is the expression of that outrage. Destruction in Pakistan is so massive that new revelations are emerging daily.”

He emphasised that the armed forces were given full operational freedom to choose the time, target, and tactics:

“Our brave soldiers punished the enemy beyond imagination. Terrorist hideouts buried deep inside enemy territory were reduced to rubble.”

In a blunt warning, the Prime Minister declared:

“India has made it clear. Nuclear blackmail will no longer be tolerated. We will respond when and how we choose.”

Multi-layered National Defence Shield by 2035: Indigenous Power at the Core

Building on the momentum of Operation Sindoor, PM Modi announced a shift in India’s defence doctrine – with self-reliance in military hardware at its heart.

“Had we not been self-reliant, could we have executed an operation like Sindoor?” he asked. “In the last decade, we prioritised domestic production, and today, our enemies are seeing the results.”

The Prime Minister unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a next-generation defence programme inspired by Lord Krishna’s mythological weapon. The mission aims to create a modern, multi-layered national defence shield by 2035, incorporating advanced surveillance, precision-strike systems, and cutting-edge technology.

Issuing a call to action for India’s scientific community, he said:

“We must build Made-in-India jet engines for our fighter aircraft. This is not just about defence – it’s about national pride, capability, and control.”

Water as a Weapon

On regional geopolitics, PM Modi sharply criticised the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it unjust to India’s interests.

“Blood and water cannot flow together,” he said, backing its suspension. “Our farmers suffer while our rivers irrigate enemy lands. This injustice has gone on too long.”

Strategic Autonomy Across Sectors

Linking defence self-reliance to broader national capability, the Prime Minister highlighted progress in renewable energy, critical minerals, and space exploration – including plans for an Indian space station.

“Self-reliance is not just about trade; it is about capability. Our enemies underestimated the power of ‘Made in India’ – they now know it can destroy them in moments.”

A New Defence Doctrine: A Speech That Signals a Defining Decade

This year’s Independence Day address was not merely ceremonial – it was a strategic declaration of intent: defend every inch of Indian territory, lead in technological innovation, and assert sovereignty in global affairs.

From the fire of Operation Sindoor to the far frontiers of space, PM Modi’s message was clear: India will rise – resilient, prepared, and self-reliant.
