Ukraine Army Strikes Supermarket In Donetsk, Russia Launches 72 Drones, Kyiv Reports

The Ukrainian army targeted a supermarket in the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk on Friday, using U.S.-supplied missiles, according to a senior Russian-backed official. The strike reportedly killed two people and caused significant damage.

Unverified images shared on social media showed a burnt-out car in front of the shattered remains of a two-story circular building surrounded by debris. Dashcam footage from a nearby driver appeared to capture the moment of impact, showing a large explosion and flames engulfing the supermarket, identified as “Moloko” (Milk).

Russia Strikes Back with 72 Drones

Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 72 drones in an overnight assault, with 33 intercepted and destroyed. Another 34 drones disappeared from the radar without reaching their intended targets.

The Air Force confirmed that five drones struck buildings in the northern Chernihiv region, injuring one person. In Kyiv, a downed drone caused minor damage to a building, but no casualties were reported.
Reuters footage captured the sound of explosions and fires blazing in the distance during the attack on Kyiv. Additional videos taken after sunrise revealed a charred section of a high-rise apartment block in the capital, with shattered windows and damaged vehicles parked below.

Massive Russian aerial assaults using long-range drones have become an almost daily occurrence in recent months. Analysts suggest these attacks aim to exhaust Ukraine’s air defence systems as the war, now in its third year, continues to escalate.
