Airbus has inaugurated its India and South Asia headquarters at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, reinforcing its long-term vision for the region’s aerospace and defence sectors. The facility was opened by India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, with top Airbus executives, including Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, and Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, in attendance.
The new headquarters consolidates all three of Airbus’ business units—commercial aircraft, helicopters, defence and space—under one roof, strengthening its proximity to customers across India and South Asia. Rémi Maillard hailed the launch as a significant milestone, stating, “This headquarters embodies Airbus’ commitment to growing India’s entire aerospace ecosystem.”
In addition to serving as a central operation hub, the facility includes a state-of-the-art pilot and maintenance training centre equipped with four A320neo Full Flight Simulators (FFS). This investment enhances Airbus’ role in workforce development and training in India, contributing to the country’s aviation expertise.
Airbus has been rapidly expanding its presence in India. “We’ve seen a three-fold increase in full-time employees over the past three years, and we’re on track to open a 5,000-seater campus in Bengaluru next year,” Maillard noted, underlining the company’s long-term commitment to India’s aviation infrastructure.
Beyond its headquarters, Airbus is a key player in India’s aviation supply chain, contributing over 1 billion euros annually through procurement. The company’s engineering and digital centres in Bengaluru play a vital role in supporting Airbus’ global operations, further embedding India in its strategic framework. Plans for new assembly lines for the C295 military transporter and H125 helicopters underscore Airbus’ intention to deepen its industrial footprint in India.
Airbus’ expansion reflects India’s rising prominence as a strategic hub in the global aviation landscape, positioning the nation as a crucial partner in the future of aerospace innovation and manufacturing.
