Chief of Army Staff Gen Upendra Dwivedi visits Manipur to assess security situation

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi undertook a day-long visit to Manipur on Tuesday to assess the security situation and review the operational readiness of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles formations deployed in the state.

During his visit, General Dwivedi was briefed on the prevailing ground situation and ongoing initiatives aimed at maintaining peace and security. He interacted with troops on the frontline, lauding their professionalism, resilience, and dedication in challenging conditions.

In a key civil-military engagement, the Army Chief called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to discuss security and development issues. The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between the civil administration and security forces in addressing the state’s complex challenges.

General Dwivedi is also scheduled to attend the opening match of the 134th Durand Cup at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal. The tournament’s return to the city after a two-year gap is being marked by a grand opening ceremony featuring traditional cultural performances and military displays – a celebration of Manipur’s rich heritage and the enduring legacy of the Indian Armed Forces.

The Army Chief’s visit reflects the Indian Army’s ongoing efforts to foster peace, strengthen civil-military cooperation, and promote youth engagement through sports and cultural integration in Manipur.

The visit reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to restoring stability and supporting development efforts in the conflict-affected region, the Indian Army stated.
