The Indian Army has declared 2026 as the “Year of Networking & Data Centricity”, an initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity, real-time decision-making and combat effectiveness as the force accelerates its push toward a digitally enabled, future-ready military.

Announcing the move on Thursday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi said the force is currently undergoing a “decade of transformation” with jointness, self-reliance and innovation forming the core pillars of India’s military power.
“Through the effective use of indigenous technologies, new ideas and continuous reforms, we are making the Army more capable and future-ready. Networking and data-centricity are providing new impetus to this transformation,” Gen Dwivedi said in his New Year message shared on the Army’s official X handle.
He affirmed that the Army continues to safeguard national security with “complete vigilance and firm determination”, noting that hostile activities had been firmly countered under Operation Sindoor last year — an operation that remains ongoing.
In a separate post, the Army said the declaration for 2026 reflects the service’s growing emphasis on indigenisation, defence modernisation and digital integration. The initiative, it said, will “strengthen resilience and agility for a future-ready force.”
Gen Dwivedi had earlier indicated the move while speaking at a seminar in November last year, where he emphasised that networking and data-centric capability was one area where the Army “needs to act faster”.
The Army has already designated 2024–25 as the “Year of Technology Absorption”, as part of its broader transformation roadmap.
