Indian manufacturer of ballistic protection systems, SMPP Limited, has secured an additional order for about 10,000 bulletproof jackets from India’s paramilitary forces, taking the total order size to 50,000 units.
The fresh order follows the company’s progress in executing an earlier contract for 40,000 bulletproof jackets for several Central Armed Police Forces, including the Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
According to the company, around 28,000 jackets have already been delivered under the original contract, with the remaining units scheduled for delivery in the next financial year, in line with the agreed timelines.
SMPP said the additional order was placed after the forces assessed the company’s delivery performance and product quality during the execution of the ongoing contract.
The jackets are designed and manufactured in India and are intended to meet stringent ballistic protection requirements, including protection against armour-piercing ammunition. The company is also supplying advanced bulletproof jackets to the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indian Army.
Ashish Kansal, CEO of SMPP, said the execution of the order reflects the company’s manufacturing capabilities and quality systems. “We remain focused on delivering reliable protective solutions that enhance operational effectiveness while contributing to India’s defence self-reliance,” he said.
Beyond personal protection equipment, SMPP is also expanding into other defence manufacturing segments. These include the production of ammunition for 155 mm artillery guns and the development of drones and drone ammunition.
The company said these initiatives are aimed at strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing capacity and supporting the government’s push for greater self-reliance in the sector.
