Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday described Operation Sindoor as a “short-duration, deep-penetration, high-intensity and high-impact” military campaign that demonstrated India’s ability to impose costs on its adversaries and compel them to back down.

Addressing the second edition of the Joint Commanders’ Conference in Jaipur, Singh said the operation reflected India’s “collective resolve and new military ethos” while underlining the growing operational synergy among the armed forces.

“Operation Sindoor is a testament to the swift, precise and joint response of the Indian Defence Forces to safeguard national interests,” the Defence Minister said, urging commanders to draw lessons from the operation and remain prepared for evolving global security challenges.

The remarks come amid the armed forces’ continuing push towards integrated theatre commands, technology-driven warfare and greater jointness among the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Highlighting the changing character of warfare, Singh said future conflicts would increasingly be shaped by hybrid threats, information dominance, and simultaneous operations across the cyber, space, electromagnetic, and cognitive domains.

He called for accelerated capability-building in artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analytics and secure communication networks, stressing that technological superiority would be critical in future battlefields.

“Future wars will not be won solely through weaponry, but through innovative thinking and enhanced synergy,” he said.

The Defence Minister also asked military commanders to cultivate the “element of surprise” in operations to retain strategic advantage over adversaries. At the same time, he cautioned the armed forces to stay alert against similar tactics by hostile forces and remain “two steps ahead”.

Singh reiterated the Narendra Modi government’s commitment to equipping the armed forces with advanced weapons and platforms, adding that special emphasis was being placed on research in niche and emerging technologies.

During the conference, the Defence Minister released a documentary on Operation Sindoor, which officials said highlighted the armed forces’ operational preparedness and rapid-response capability. He also unveiled the Hindi version of Vision 2047 and the Joint Doctrine for Integrated Communication Architecture aimed at improving interoperability and integrated communications in future multidomain operations.

The conference, themed “Military Capability in New Domains”, brought together the top leadership of the Ministry of Defence and the three Services to deliberate on emerging security challenges, multidomain warfare and military modernisation.

Officials said the discussions focused on cognitive warfare, cyber resilience against AI-enabled and quantum-era threats, indigenous innovation and AI-driven warfighting concepts. Demonstrations of advanced systems developed for intelligence fusion, operational planning and information management were also showcased during the event, reflecting the military’s increasing reliance on cutting-edge technologies and integrated operational structures.
