Watch Episode 11 of Defence Procurement: A Practitioner’s Perspective from BharatShakti.

A successful demo may prove that a technology works and reveal new operational possibilities. But it does not automatically create a procurement case.

The military still has to determine the operational problem being addressed, who needs the capability, how many are required, how it will integrate with existing systems, what changes it may require, how urgent it is, and how it compares with other competing capability gaps.

From there, a requirement must gain priority, enter planning, become an executable project, receive funding and eventually reach the appropriate authority for expenditure sanction.

For defence companies, this means asking a better question than simply “When will the RFP come?”

The real question is: Where has the capability reached in the planning process?
