The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved the purchase of the Advanced Land Navigation System (ALNS) for the Indian Army’s Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs). According to sources in the Defence Ministry, the system is spoof-proof and has high encryption levels. To enhance the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard, the DAC, Chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, also approved the procurement of 22 Interceptor Boats.
The ALNS Mk-II is compatible with the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS, NavIC) as well as the Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS). It is compatible with Defence Series Maps, ensuring high accuracy in navigational applications for AFVs. This equipment will be procured from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Chennai, under the Buy Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.be procured from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Chennai, under the Buy [lndian-Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (lDDM)] category, according to the Defence Ministry statement.
BEL’s Advanced Land Navigation System is a ring laser gyro (RLG)- based navigation system. It traverses a path defined by the coordinates of a military map in ESM format. To meet navigation requirements, the system provides inertial, GPS, and hybrid navigation data. It dynamically updates the vehicle’s present position and bearing to the selected destination, guiding the commander and driver of the vehicle.
The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the procurement of 22 Interceptor Boats equipped with advanced systems that enable quick interception and operation in shallow waters within the Indian Coast Guard. The boats will be utilised for coastal surveillance, patrolling, search and rescue missions, and medical evacuation.
