The rapidly changing nature of warfare, driven by advances in technology and the blurring of traditional battlefronts, will require India to adopt a more integrated and forward-looking approach to national security, military leaders and strategic experts observed at the 13th edition of the Kasauli Strategic Seminar held on Thursday.

The seminar, themed “Future Wars & India’s Multi-Domain Preparedness,” was organised as part of the annual Kasauli Week celebrations and brought together senior military officers, diplomats, defence analysts, media professionals and strategic thinkers to deliberate on the emerging contours of conflict.

The event was attended by Lieutenant General Anindya Sengupta, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command, along with the General Officer Commanding, Uttar Bharat Area, and the General Officer Commanding, Golden Key Division.

The discussions focused on the increasing complexity of the global security environment and emphasised the need for India to prepare for conflicts that often extend beyond traditional military domains. Speakers explored several key topics, including the effects of geopolitical instability, the strategic importance of maritime power, the growing role of artificial intelligence in military operations, emerging challenges in the aerospace and space sectors, and how media influences public perception and strategic narratives during modern conflicts.

Participants noted that future wars are likely to occur simultaneously across various domains, including land, sea, air, space, cyber, and information environments, with the cognitive dimension emerging as a critical battlefield.

The deliberations underscored the need for integrated national preparedness, technological innovation and long-term strategic planning. Experts stressed that safeguarding India’s interests in such an environment would require a whole-of-nation approach, involving close coordination among the armed forces, government institutions, industry, academia, and the wider strategic community.

The seminar concluded with a reaffirmation of the strategic community’s commitment to fostering informed debate and developing a deeper understanding of evolving warfare paradigms.

Meanwhile, at the sidelines of the seminar, Lt Gen Sengupta flagged off the ‘Surya Green Himalayan Odyssey’, an 11-day electric vehicle expedition that will travel from the Shivalik foothills to Leh, highlighting sustainable mobility in some of the country’s most challenging terrains.

Organised by the Indian Army’s Surya Command in collaboration with Tata Motors, Himachal Tourism, the Leh Tourism Department and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the expedition will traverse high-altitude passes and remote frontier regions, carrying a message that extends beyond adventure and endurance to promote environmental consciousness and the viability of clean mobility solutions in difficult operating conditions.
