Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated 75 projects worth Rs 2,236 crore to the country in the latest infrastructure push along the China border and other remote areas. These projects include roads and bridges aimed at enhancing military mobility and logistics support in remote areas along the China border, specifically in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. The development comes amid China’s relentless infrastructure expansion along the Indian border over the past five years.
Singh, who is visiting Sikkim on October 11-12, opened the strategic Kupup-Sherathang road which serves as a crucial link between Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg and Zuluk axis and virtually inaugurated the remaining 74 projects, from the headquarter of Trishakti Corps in Sukna, West Bengal, including a few in West Bengal, Nagaland, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In his address, Singh referred to the projects as a testament to the government’s unwavering resolve to continue strengthening the border infrastructure and ensuring the socio-economic progress of these areas. He added that these projects will significantly enhance the country’s defense preparedness.
With the inauguration of these 75 projects, BRO completed 111 infrastructure projects in 2024 at an overall cost of Rs 3,751 crore. This includes 36 projects worth Rs 1,508 crore, such as the state-of-the-art Sela Tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, which the Prime Minister inaugurated earlier this year. Last year, 125 infrastructure projects of BRO were dedicated to the nation for Rs 3,611 crore.
He emphasized that border infrastructure development has been a priority area for the government since it came to power. These regions, especially the Northeast, are crucial from socio-economic and strategic perspectives. “In the last decade, we have built a vast network of roads from villages to cities, resulting in unprecedented progress for the country,” he said.
