Paramesh Sivamani assumed charge as the new Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday. Paramesh Sivamani is the 26th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard. According to the Defense Ministry, Paramesh Sivamani has served in various positions during his more than three-decade-long illustrious career, including coastal and ship-based appointments. He is an expert in navigation and direction and has commanded all major ships of the ICG.
The Flag Officer was at the helm of the Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), and Coast Guard Commander Eastern Seaboard). He is an alumnus of the National Defence College, New Delhi and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

He was elevated to the rank of Additional Director General in September 2022, and was subsequently posted at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi. He was given the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard in August 2024 following DG Rakesh Pal’s untimely demise.
The Defence Ministry stated during his illustrious career, he carried out many important operations and exercises. These included the seizure of drugs and gold worth crores of rupees. In addition, rescue operations were conducted during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with foreign coast guards, anti-poaching campaigns, and coastal security exercises, which also involved humanitarian assistance.
