American aeronautical and defence equipment maker Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX, has inaugurated a new Engineering Development and Test Centre (EDTC) in Bengaluru, marking a significant investment in India’s aerospace sector. The facility is designed to test aerospace systems and ensure compliance with international safety and performance standards.
Equipped with state-of-the-art testing capabilities, the EDTC can simulate extreme aircraft operating conditions, including high altitudes, intense vibrations, electromagnetic interference, and extreme temperatures, the company statement stated.
Clay Lindwall, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology at Collins Aerospace, stated that the centre will initially focus on testing avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and control systems. Over time, the facility’s services will expand to support all RTX businesses, broadening its role in aerospace and defence applications.
“This investment brings advanced testing capabilities closer to where engineering and manufacturing happen and underscores India’s strategic importance in the global supply chain,” said Savyasachi Srinivas, Vice President of Global Engineering & Technology Centres.
Collins Aerospace is actively collaborating with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), with its equipment integrated into various fighter jets and helicopters, including the Tejas. Additionally, the company is in discussions with the Aeronautical Development Agency regarding the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) project.
With over 6,000 employees in India across engineering, digital, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain functions, Collins Aerospace continues to expand its footprint. The EDTC is expected to solidify India’s position as a key hub for aerospace innovation within the company’s global network.
