In a strong show of solidarity with India, senior leaders, former ministers, and national security experts from Nepal have warned the government against allowing Pakistan-based terrorist groups to exploit Nepalese territory. The comments came during a high-level conference on regional security, where participants condemned terrorism and emphasized closer cooperation with India to combat cross-border threats.

The event, titled “Terrorism in South Asia: Challenges to Regional Peace and Security,” was organized by the National Institute for International Cooperation and Engagement (NIICE). It brought together prominent figures from Nepal’s political and defense circles to address the growing security challenges in the region.

Former Ministers Caution Against Terror Threats from Pakistan

Speaking at the event, Sunil Bahadur Thapa, former Minister of Industry and Commerce, issued a clear warning to Nepal’s leadership, particularly the KP Sharma Oli government.

“Extremist groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, which pose a direct threat to India, may attempt to use Nepal as a transit route. We must ensure this never happens,” he said.

Chanda Chaudhary, former Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, stressed the need to target the financial roots of terrorism.

“Curbing money laundering and illicit financing is crucial to preventing the cross-border movement of terrorists,” she said.

Strong Condemnation of Pahalgam Attack

Participants unanimously condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India, calling it one of the deadliest in recent history.

Dinesh Bhattarai, former Foreign Secretary of Nepal, described the brutality of the attack: “The attackers reportedly asked victims their religion before executing them with shots to the head. This is a heinous crime that must be universally condemned.”

Former Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud added that terrorism remains a shared threat to all South Asian nations.

Intelligence Sharing and Border Cooperation Highlighted

Several speakers highlighted the strategic importance of intelligence sharing and joint border monitoring between India and Nepal.

Former Foreign Secretary Madhu Raman Acharya said: “Nepal stands firmly with India in the fight against terrorism. Intelligence cooperation and coordinated patrolling along our shared border are vital steps forward.”

A United Front Against Terrorism

The conference concluded with a broad consensus that Nepal must not allow its territory to be used for any activity that threatens regional peace—particularly acts targeting India. Speakers urged the Nepalese government to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing terror networks from exploiting Nepal’s open border.

As regional tensions rise following attacks in India, Nepal’s strong message of solidarity is a significant diplomatic statement, reinforcing the importance of a united South Asian stance against terrorism.
