DRDO completed development trials of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in air-to-ground and air-to-air configuration

India on Tuesday completed development trials of the indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in both air-to-ground and air-to-air configurations, marking a significant step in the country’s push for self-reliance in precision strike weapon systems.

The trials were conducted by the Defence Research and Development Organisation at its test range near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, using an integrated Ground Control System (GCS) that handled command, control, and launch operations for the missile system.

According to the Defence Ministry, the ULPGM-V3 demonstrated its capability in anti-tank operations and engagements against drones, helicopters, and other airborne targets. The trials validated both air-to-ground and air-to-air operational modes of the missile.

The missile has been developed by Research Centre Imarat, the nodal laboratory, with contributions from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, the Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory, and the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.

The weapon system was integrated on unmanned aerial vehicles developed by Newspace Research and Technologies for the current round of trials.

In a major push to indigenous defence manufacturing, DRDO has partnered with Bharat Dynamics Limited and Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited to produce the missile. Officials said the trials also confirmed the readiness of a fully indigenous supply chain involving MSMEs and private industry partners for serial production.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the successful trials as a “strategic milestone” towards defence self-reliance. He congratulated DRDO, public sector units, and industry partners on the successful validation of the missile system across multiple operational roles.

Secretary, Department of Defence R&D and DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat also congratulated the teams associated with the programme, calling the trials a significant achievement for India’s indigenous missile development efforts.
