In a bid to enhance the combat capabilities of the military’s heavy-duty vehicles, three defence public sector undertakings have come together for the development of an Advanced Fuelling and Control System. The Ministry of Defence has formally entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BEML Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) to facilitate the indigenous development of an Advanced Fuelling and Control System for Engines designed for heavy-duty applications. The signing ceremony took place on March 4 in New Delhi, the Ministry said in a statement.
Military vehicles must operate under challenging conditions compared to commercial vehicles. Heavy-duty military vehicles’ combat and tactical applications require specific and advanced engine control methods. It impacts the engine’s fuelling capacity and consumption, affecting the vehicle’s overall performance.
This joint effort will utilise domestic capabilities to create, test, and produce an advanced fuelling and control system, emphasising improved efficiency, performance, and reliability of heavy-duty vehicles operating in tough terrains. By incorporating cutting-edge developments in engine technology and control systems, the collaborating companies aim to broaden their proficiency in engine system development, fostering self-sufficiency in combat vehicles. As per the statement, the Memorandum of Understanding underscores the government’s commitment to cultivating intricate technologies domestically as part of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The MoU signing was conducted in the presence of Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.
