We have moved a case for a third aircraft carrier, the second that can be indigenously built, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar has told Bharat Shakti.

In an exclusive interview with Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale on board INS Visakhapatnam, the Admiral said the Indian Navy has to keep an eye on the vast Indian Ocean Region and an even wider area in the Indo-Pacific.

“The idea is to have at least two operational carrier battle groups, for which three aircraft carriers will be needed.”

He also went on to elaborate why engagement is the key when it comes to the region and how the Indian Navy is going about it.
