Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) achieved another milestone on January 5, launching two indigenously designed and constructed Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard. The vessels, Amulya and Akshay, were launched at a ceremony attended by Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, reflecting India’s commitment to self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
Designed in-house by GSL to cater to the Coast Guard’s specific operational requirements, the FPVs are state-of-the-art platforms built for multidimensional maritime roles. With a length of 52 meters, a breadth of 8 meters, and a displacement of 320 tonnes, these vessels are optimized for safeguarding offshore assets, protecting island territories, and conducting coastal surveillance, among other critical tasks.
