In a reiteration of deepening strategic ties, Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth held a comprehensive telephonic discussion on Tuesday. The talks focused on broadening defence cooperation and industrial collaboration between the two nations.
According to officials the conversation covered a wide array of defence priorities, including long-term military cooperation, joint training programs, and the integration of defence supply chains. Both leaders underscored the importance of enhancing interoperability and increasing joint military exercises, while also engaging with like-minded partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
Singh expressed appreciation for the consistent U.S. backing in India’s efforts to combat terrorism. He also praised Secretary Hegseth’s leadership, noting that it has helped elevate the bilateral defence relationship to new heights.
Highlighting the outcomes of the call, Singh shared on social media that the talks focused on reviewing current projects and launching new initiatives to strengthen defence ties and build capacity. He noted his anticipation of meeting Secretary Hegseth in person in the near future.
This marks the third telephonic exchange between Singh and Hegseth since the latter took office in January 2025. It also comes in the wake of the recent India-Pakistan military conflict earlier in May, making their engagement particularly timely.
Secretary Hegseth extended an invitation to Singh to visit the United States, aiming to further advance the growing strategic partnership.
As India and the U.S. continue to deepen their collaboration, this dialogue reflects the growing synergy between the two democracies in ensuring regional stability and bolstering defence readiness.
