MoD has signed a Rs 449-crore contract with Bengaluru-based software company for procurement of 20 Global Navigation Satellite System Jammers for Indian Navy

In a move aimed at enhancing the Indian Navy’s ability to operate in increasingly contested maritime environments, the Ministry of Defence on Wednesday signed a Rs 449-crore contract with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited (ASSPL) for the procurement of 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) Jammers.

The agreement was signed under the Buy (Indian–Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
According to the MoD, the systems will be supplied with a minimum of 75 per cent indigenous content, marking another step in the government’s push to reduce dependence on imported defence technologies.

The ECGNSS Jammers are designed to counter adversary reliance on satellite-based navigation systems. Their capabilities include disrupting an enemy’s ability to acquire and track Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals, as well as carrying out signal spoofing and deceptive jamming operations.

Defence officials said the induction of these systems will significantly enhance the survivability and operational effectiveness of Indian naval platforms by enabling them to operate safely in a complex, multi-threat electromagnetic environment.

Modern warships increasingly depend on electronic warfare systems to deny adversaries access to critical navigation and targeting inputs derived from satellite constellations, such as GPS and other GNSS networks. The ability to degrade or manipulate such signals has emerged as a crucial capability in contemporary naval operations, particularly amid the growing use of precision-guided weapons and network-centric warfare.

The contract is also expected to boost the domestic defence industrial base. Accord Software and Systems, headquartered in Bengaluru, specialises in positioning, navigation and timing technologies and has been involved in the development of indigenous navigation solutions for both civilian and military applications.

The Ministry said the acquisition reflects the government’s continued emphasis on the  Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and the broader Make in India programme. Beyond strengthening the Navy’s electronic warfare inventory, the procurement is expected to contribute to the indigenisation of advanced military technologies and support the development of specialised capabilities within the country’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

The latest deal comes as the armed forces continue to prioritise indigenous procurement programmes aimed at improving operational readiness while building long-term self-reliance in critical defence technologies.
