In a significant push to enhance the Indian Army’s mobility in challenging terrains, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has inked a ₹197.35 crore contract with Ashok Leyland Defence Systems Ltd for the procurement of 500 Pre-fabricated Short Chassis Buses.
These specially designed buses feature a reinforced structure and cutting-edge safety systems, enabling them to navigate extreme mountainous landscapes easily. The enhanced transportation capability is expected to significantly strengthen the Army’s operational reach, ensuring swift and secure troop movement in extreme rugged mountainous terrains.
Classified as a “Buy (Indian-IDDM)” procurement, the deal aligns with the government’s vision of bolstering indigenous defence manufacturing under the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat‘ initiative. Beyond enhancing self-reliance, the contract is set to generate sustained employment opportunities, further reinforcing India’s defence production ecosystem.
This acquisition underscores India’s commitment to modernizing its military logistics while promoting homegrown defence solutions, solidifying the nation’s position as a self-sufficient defence manufacturing hub.
