With growing attention on regional peace and security in the Indo-Pacific, a key multilateral defence conference in Thailand is set to address pressing issues, including maritime security, counter-terrorism, cyber resilience, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief. The conference will also explore strategies to strengthen stability, promote international norms, and build a resilient regional security architecture.
Representing India at this forum, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC), will visit Thailand from August 26 to 28. His participation underscores India’s commitment to fostering deeper security cooperation and upholding a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
The conference, jointly organised by the United States Indo-Pacific Command and the Royal Thai Armed Forces, serves as a premier platform for dialogue among defence chiefs from across the region. It comes at a time when nations are working to enhance joint preparedness, improve interoperability, and counter shared security threats.
Air Marshal Dixit is expected to hold bilateral and multilateral discussions with counterparts from other participating countries, focusing on operational collaboration, information-sharing mechanisms, and strategic partnerships.
This engagement takes place ahead of the 22nd ASEAN Chiefs of Defence Forces Meeting (ACDFM), scheduled from September 9 to 12. The ACDFM is expected to reaffirm the collective commitment to peace, maritime safety, freedom of navigation and overflight, and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
India’s participation in these platforms reflects its active role in regional defence diplomacy and its support for inclusive, cooperative, and rules-based security frameworks in the Indo-Pacific.
