The Indian and US armies showcased their integrated firepower capabilities during a joint firing demonstration at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan as part of Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026.
US Ambassador Sergio Gor and Lt Gen Vikrant Suresh Deshpande, General Officer Commanding, 10 Corps, witnessed the demonstration, which brought together artillery, attack aviation, air defence and battlefield surveillance systems operated by the two armies.
The Indian Army deployed the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher, M777 ultra-light howitzers, Dhanush artillery guns, AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, L70 air-defence guns and Swathi weapon-locating radars. The US Army fielded its High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and M-LIDS counter-drone system.
The exercise also featured the operational integration of Indian Army Apache attack helicopters with ground forces. The helicopters are being employed in joint mission planning, battlefield coordination, manoeuvre and precision engagement drills, giving troops an opportunity to practise the integration of attack aviation with ground operations.
The firing demonstration and integrated drills are aimed at improving interoperability between the two armies, particularly in communications, command and control and coordination across different combat arms.
The 2026 edition of Yudh Abhyas is being conducted against the backdrop of growing emphasis by both armies on operating jointly in complex and multi-domain battle environments. Regular bilateral exercises provide the two forces an opportunity to familiarise themselves with each other’s equipment, procedures and tactical approaches.
The exercise continues the long-running Yudh Abhyas series, which has become a key component of India-US Army engagement and focuses on enhancing the ability of the two forces to conduct coordinated operations.
