The Indian Navy’s biannual Commanders’ Conference, the second such conference of the year, will be held from 29 September to 1 October at Nausena Bhawan, New Delhi.
As the Navy’s apex-level forum, the three-day conference will bring together the senior leadership, including operational and area commanders from across the country, to undertake a comprehensive review of operational preparedness at the military-strategic level. The conference will also provide an institutionalised platform for interaction between the naval leadership and senior government functionaries.
The conference assumes added significance amid the continuing conflicts in West Asia and the heightened focus on securing India’s maritime interests, particularly the security of energy supplies. The Indian Navy’s ongoing Operation Urja Suraksha to protect critical energy shipments passing through the volatile Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf and its sustained operational presence underscore its role as a credible maritime force and a Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond.
On the opening day, the Defence Minister will address the naval leadership and share his vision and guidance on national maritime perspectives and the expectations from the Indian Navy, an officer disclosed. The Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Army Staff will also interact with the naval commanders, reinforcing the focus on jointness, integration and tri-service synergy.
During the subsequent sessions, the Chief of the Naval Staff, along with the Commanders-in-Chief, will review key areas including operations, materiel, logistics, human resources and training. The conference will also focus on the induction and absorption of niche technologies, including artificial intelligence, big data analytics, autonomous and uncrewed systems and cyber operations.
The discussions are expected to emphasise the need for the rapid adoption of cutting-edge warfighting concepts and accelerated absorption of emerging technologies to strengthen the Navy’s operational edge.
At the broader level, the apex naval leadership will review the Navy’s overall preparedness, force levels and combat readiness, guided by the three foundational pillars of JAI – Jointness, Atmanirbharta and Innovation. These efforts are aligned with the government’s broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.
