“Are Nukes Safe with Pakistan?”: Rajnath Singh in First Visit to Valley After Operation Sindoor

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar on Thursday morning, marking his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir following Operation Sindoor — India’s recent cross-border military strike targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of Indian security personnel and civilians.

During his visit, Singh reviewed the overall security situation in the Valley, assessed the operational readiness of the armed forces, and inspected shell fragments believed to have been fired from across the border. He also visited the headquarters of the Army’s strategic 15 Corps and interacted with soldiers on the ground.

Calling Operation Sindoor a “historic action,” Singh declared it the “biggest counter-terror operation” undertaken by India. “We will go to any extent to eliminate terrorism. Pakistan must stop giving shelter to terrorists,” he said firmly.

In a sharp message to Islamabad, the Defence Minister raised a provocative question: “Are nuclear weapons safe with Pakistan?” The remark, seen as a serious diplomatic signal, comes amid heightened tensions following India’s trans-border action. The Minister proposed that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons be placed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) which works to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and prevent its use for military purposes.

Addressing troops, Singh paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and civilians in the Pahalgam attack. “I bow to the supreme sacrifice of our brave jawans and express my respect for the innocent civilians who lost their lives. I also salute the courage of our injured soldiers and pray for their swift recovery,” he said.

Singh lauded the precision and restraint shown by the armed forces during the strike. “You destroyed the enemy’s posts and bunkers with exceptional resolve and discipline. Enthusiasm is natural in war, but you maintained composure and struck with intelligence and strategy.”

Striking an emotional note, Singh said, “Today, I am not just here as the Defence Minister. I stand before you as a messenger of the people — carrying their prayers, gratitude, and pride in you. The message from every Indian is clear: We are proud of our forces.”

He reiterated India’s zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. “Operation Sindoor has sent an unmistakable message to terror outfits and their handlers across the border — they are no longer safe. Our armed forces strike with precision, and the task of counting is left to the enemy.”
