Indian Armed Forces today hit nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting terrorist infrastructure there. The strike came two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed. A Defence Ministry statement said on Wednesday, “A little while ago, the Indian armed forces launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed.”
“Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution,” it said.
“These steps come in the wake of the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen were murdered. We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” it said.

Reporting from Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Reuters news agency said multiple explosions were heard in the area. It quoted a spokesman for Pakistan’s military who told broadcaster ARY that India had launched missile attacks on three locations and that Pakistan would respond.
The New York Times also reported that residents of Muzaffarabad heard jets overhead. According to them, a rural site near Muzaffarabad—once used by the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba—appeared to have been targeted in the strikes.
A spokesman for the Pakistan Army confirmed that two other locations were hit – Bahawalpur in Pakistan’s Punjab province, reportedly home to a religious seminary linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Kotli in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
In response, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement claiming that the Indian Air Force, while remaining within Indian airspace, carried out strikes using standoff weapons on targets across the international border in Muridke and Bahawalpur, as well as across the Line of Control in Kotli and Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Alleging casualties on its side, the statement added that “Pakistan reserves the right to respond appropriately at a time and place of its choosing.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi monitored Operation Sindoor through the night, while India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval briefed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio shortly after the strikes, according to a statement from the Indian Embassy in Washington.
