The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard will get 11 Airport Surveillance Radars with Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar to enhance safety and efficiency in flying operations. Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed a contract with Mahindra Telephonics Integrated Systems Ltd., Mumbai for procurement of these radars on 3 June. The procurement, at a cost of Rs 323.47 crore, will be made under the ‘Buy & Make’ category. The signing of this contract is in line with the Government’s ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ (Self-Reliant India Campaign). This would enable absorption of technology, skill development and indigenous manufacture, boosting employment opportunities, according to the MoD statement. The installation of these radars will increase the air domain awareness around airfields of these two services.
