Operation Sindoor Enters Phase II: India Destroys Pakistani Air Defence, Foils Cross-Border Escalation Attempt

0

India has launched the second phase of its precision military campaign, Operation Sindoor, following a failed attempt by Pakistan to escalate tensions by targeting military assets across northern and western India with drones and missiles. In a swift counter-response, Indian forces have neutralised a key Pakistani air defence system in Lahore and conducted the deepest cross-border strikes since the start of the conflict.

Senior defence officials confirmed that Pakistani military assets aimed at Indian positions in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat late on May 7 and early May 8 were intercepted by IndiaтАЩs Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and advanced air defence systems. Locations targeted by Pakistan included high-value military sites in Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, and Bhuj.

тАЬThe attacks were successfully foiled. Debris recovered across several Indian states is clear evidence of Pakistani escalation,тАЭ a senior Defence Ministry official said.

Indian Counterstrike: Phase II in Motion

Hours after successful military strike on May 7, India launched retaliatory strikes under Phase II of Operation Sindoor, targeting Pakistani air defence radars and terror infrastructure. According to the Ministry, an air defence system in Lahore has been destroyed, while other strategic assets were hit across Rawalpindi, Karachi, and terror hubs in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). PakistanтАЩs HQ-9 air defence systems reportedly have suffered heavy damage as the Chinese air defence missile system failed, claiming Indian stealth missiles evaded detection or intercept.

The Indian military reportedly used an array of advanced weapon systems during this ongoing operation, including BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, SCALP missiles launched from Rafale fighter jets, and Israeli-origin Harop loitering munitionsтАФmarking their first confirmed use in active combat. The use of Spice-2000 precision bombs alongside Sukhoi Su-30MKIs armed with BrahMos for deep-strike missions underscores a significant enhancement in India’s strike power and strategic reach in modern warfare.

Key Targets Hit: From Karachi to Muzaffarabad

Among the high-value targets struck:

  • Gulshan-e-Hadeed in Karachi, where drone strikes hit properties reportedly linked to underworld figures Dawood Ibrahim and Anees Ibrahim
  • Terror training camps in Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad flattened using precision-guided munitions

Pakistan has acknowledged strikes in at least five locations deep within its territory, including strategic areas in Punjab province.

Escalation Along the LoC

Pakistan has responded with intensified shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), using mortars and heavy artillery in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri. The resulting cross-border fire has caused heavy civilian casualties:

  • 15 Indian civilians killed, including children
  • 45 injured, with infrastructure damage reported in Rajouri and Poonch
  • 10 Pakistani soldiers killed in retaliatory fire
  • One Pakistani JF-17 fighter was reportedly shot down over Pampore by Indian air defences

All-Party Briefing: Over 100 Terrorists Killed

At a high-level all-party briefing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Operation Sindoor as a тАЬstrategic and ongoingтАЭ mission. He confirmed that over 100 suspected terrorists have been neutralised so far, pending further verification.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, closely monitoring the situation from Delhi, held back-to-back meetings with NSA Ajit Doval and BSF DG Daljit Singh Chaudhary. The BSF has been placed on full operational alert. Evacuation protocols have been activated along sensitive border zones.

Operation Objectives

Indian military sources stated that all targets were chosen with precision to avoid civilian and Pakistani military casualties, focusing solely on terrorist infrastructure. тАЬOur strikes are focused, calibrated, and defensive in nature,тАЭ said the Indian Army on Wednesday (May 7). тАЬIndia does not seek escalation but reserves the right to defend its citizens.тАЭ
