Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday addressed officers of the UAE National Defence College (NDC). In his address, he highlighted the evolving global security landscape and the changing character of modern conflicts, underscoring the impetus for technology in modern warfare, the Indian Army said in a post on X.

“The Gen Dwivedi emphasised the leadership role of senior military officers and stressed the importance of collaborative engagements, including strong bilateral and multilateral defence cooperation between India, the UAE and other regional partners, to achieve symbiotic outcomes and advance regional and global peace and security,” it added.

Army Chief on Monday held wide-ranging talks with Commander of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Land Forces, Major General Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami, with a focus on expanding bilateral military cooperation.

Gen Dwivedi is on a two-day visit to the UAE in the first leg of his two-nation tour. He will embark on the Sri Lanka tour after concluding his January 5- 6 trip to the UAE.

The Army Chief’s visit to the UAE comes amid fast-paced developments in the Gulf region, including escalating tensions between the UAE and Saudi Arabia over the situation in Yemen.

The Indian Army said on social media that the talks between the two Chiefs focused on advancing bilateral defence cooperation. The discussions focused on enhancing positive military engagement, training convergence and advancing bilateral defence cooperation between India and the UAE.

The military cooperation between India and the UAE gained significant momentum after the visit to the UAE by then Army Chief Gen M M Naravane in December 2020. It was the first-ever visit to the UAE by an Indian Army Chief. Gen Dwivedi’s trip to the UAE is taking place weeks after the Gulf nation’s Commander of the Presidential Guard, Major General Ali Saif Humaid Alkaabi, visited India.
