A Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCoD) delegation, led by its Chairman Radha Mohan Singh, visited the Southern Air Command (SAC) on Thursday. During the visit, Air Marshal B Manikantan, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of SAC, provided a comprehensive briefing on the command’s pivotal role in securing the maritime skies of the country’s southern peninsula.
The 15-member committee discussed with SAC officers and was briefed on the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) evolving role. The briefing highlighted the IAF’s transformation from a tactical force to a multi-spectrum force with trans-oceanic capabilities, underscoring its growing strategic importance.

Addressing the officers, SCoD Chairman and Lok Sabha MP Radha Mohan Singh commended the Southern Air Command’s relentless efforts in protecting the airspace over southern India. He also praised the IAF’s critical contributions during maritime operations and its swift and effective responses in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions.
The visit underscored the committee’s recognition of the IAF’s expanding capabilities and significant role in safeguarding national interests across diverse domains, according to the Indian Air Force.
