Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari on Friday assumed charge as the new Vice Chief of the Air Staff on Friday, succeeding Air Marshal S P Dharkar, who superannuated on April 30.
Prior to this appointment, Air Marshal Tiwari served as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the South Western Air Command (SWAC), headquartered in Gandhinagar. He had taken over the command in May 2023.
On his arrival at Air Headquarters (Vayu Bhawan), Air Marshal Tiwari was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour.

Commissioned into the fighter stream of the Indian Air Force in June 1986, he is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, graduating as the President’s Gold Medallist.
Air Marshal Tiwari is a highly accomplished aviator, a qualified flying instructor and experimental test pilot. He has flown a wide range of aircraft and has extensive operational experience, particularly on the Mirage-2000 platform. His career includes significant contributions to the evaluation and operational testing of various weapons and systems.
During the Kargil conflict, he played a key role in several critical missions, demonstrating exemplary skill and leadership.
