Chief of Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth began a three-day official visit to Russia on Wednesday, aimed at strengthening India-Russia defence cooperation, military-to-military engagement and professional exchanges.
The visit, scheduled from September 16 to 18, comes as the two countries seek to sustain their longstanding defence partnership through military diplomacy and institutional engagement.
During his visit to Moscow, General Seth is scheduled to hold talks with Colonel General Andrei Nikolayevich Mordvichev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Land Forces. Discussions are expected to focus on professional military cooperation, training and other issues of mutual interest.
The Army Chief will also visit Russia’s National Defence Control Centre and meet senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Defence, including Deputy Defence Minister Vasily Sergeyevich Osmakov, who handles defence industry and procurement. The engagements are intended to facilitate exchanges on contemporary military developments and explore avenues for expanding defence cooperation.
As part of the programme, General Seth will receive a ceremonial Guard of Honour and pay tribute to fallen soldiers at Moscow’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
The Army Chief will subsequently travel to Saint Petersburg, where he is scheduled to visit the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy and interact with its leadership and faculty.
The visit highlights the importance attached by India and Russia to sustained Army-to-Army engagement and military cooperation. The planned discussions are expected to provide an opportunity to review existing cooperation and identify areas for further collaboration in training, military exchanges and defence-related engagement.
