In a move that underscores India’s growing leadership in drone innovation, India-based IG Drones has announced a strategic partnership with VoxelSensors, a Belgium-based pioneer in advanced sensing technologies. The collaboration aims to develop next-generation drones capable of navigating complex environments where GPS signals are weak or unavailable.
The partnership is part of a global program supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It highlights the increasing role of international cooperation in accelerating technological advancements.
At the heart of the collaboration is VoxelSensors’ cutting-edge SPAES (Spatial Awareness Sensing) technology—a real-time 3D sensing system that enables drones to “see” their surroundings, avoid obstacles, and make faster, more autonomous decisions. IG Drones will integrate SPAES into its fleet to enhance operations in challenging terrains such as forests, tunnels, dense urban zones, and construction sites.
“This partnership is a testament to the power of global collaboration in building safer and more intelligent systems,” said Paneerselvam Madanagopal, CEO of MeitY. “It aligns with India’s vision for responsible innovation and smart digital infrastructure.”
Sambit Parida, Chief Technology Officer of IG Drones, emphasized the practical implications of the deal: “With VoxelSensors’ technology onboard, our drones will be better equipped to perform in high-risk and GPS-denied environments. It is a game-changer for sectors such as disaster response, infrastructure inspection, and smart city development.”
The partnership comes at a pivotal moment for IG Drones, which has experienced exponential growth—deploying over 200 drones in the past year and recording a 330% increase in revenue. The company has also launched 50 Drone Centres of Excellence across India in collaboration with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), further cementing its leadership in drone education and skill development.
Andre Miodezky, President of VoxelSensors, hailed the partnership as a milestone. “This collaboration brings our sensing technology into real-world missions, showcasing a perfect synergy between European innovation and India’s rapidly evolving drone ecosystem.”
As India continues to strengthen its position in the global drone landscape, the IG Drones–VoxelSensors alliance serves as a powerful example of how cross-border partnerships can drive transformative technological progress.
