The Indian Army played a very crucial role during Operation Sindoor. From manning the frontier, to retaliating, to taking down a major portion of the waves of drones unleashed by the Pakistanis, the Indian Army took on the challenge, spoiling the enemy’s designs. The Pakistanis fired well over 18,000 artillery and mortar rounds at both military and civilian targets on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC) during the four-day-long Operation Sindoor.
The Indian Army, already deployed along the LoC, hit back with ferocity. The Indian response we were told, was not as big as the fire assaults from the Pakistanis quantitatively, but qualitatively it was a different tale. Speaking about the army’s riposte along the LoC in the Jammu region, a senior officer speaking to Bharat Shakti said that “The Pakistanis could not have even imagined the ferocity of the Indian response”.
The Indian Army using various types of equipment such as Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPVs), Weapon Locating Radars (WLRs) and various other types of electro-optic devices, hit back and silenced many of the artillery guns and mortars on the other side of the LoC during Op Sindoor.
Unlike the Pakistanis, the Indian Armed Forces only targeted military infrastructure. This task was made somewhat complicated as many Pakistani artillery positions were located very close to areas with civilian population centres, by design. Bharat Shakti’s team was shown images of destroyed Pakistani positions during Op Sindoor. The team also witnessed destroyed Pakistani posts.
Across the LoC in the Jammu sector (from Akhnoor to Poonch) the Pakistanis are estimated to have suffered over 50 fatal casualties, while the Indian side has suffered three fatalities during the intense fighting in Op Sindoor.
The Indian fire on Pakistani positions degraded the morale of their soldiers. Radio intercepts of Pakistani communications during Op Sindoor, as we are told, describe the low morale across the LoC. Wherever we went, on the frontline, in artillery positions and air defence locations, Indian troops seemed to be in very high spirits.
