The United States has approved a $131 million sale of critical military equipment and logistics support to India to enhance maritime security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region under the Quad’s Maritime Domain Awareness initiative.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), which operates under the Pentagon, has issued the necessary certification for the proposed sale and notified Congress, according to an official statement.
The equipment will be provided through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and is aligned with the India-US partnership under the Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) initiative.
“The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to India of Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness and related equipment for an estimated cost of $131 million,” the DSCA said in its notification.
India has requested various components, including SeaVision software, remote software, analytic support, and associated documentation and logistics services.
While Indian officials have not confirmed the proposed sale, US authorities said the move reflects Washington’s commitment to strengthening its strategic ties with New Delhi.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by strengthening the US-India strategic partnership,” the DSCA noted. “It will enhance the security of a major defence partner and promote political stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions.”
According to the US, the sale will bolster India’s maritime domain awareness, analytical capabilities, and strategic posture to counter current and future threats. It also confirmed that India would be able to integrate the new capabilities without difficulty.
The principal contractor for the sale is Hawkeye 360, a US-based defence technology firm headquartered in Herndon, Virginia.
The DSCA emphasized that the sale would not affect the regional military balance or impair the US military’s readiness.
